Our Art, Our Voice, the Arc of Dauphin County’s 44th Annual Art exhibition, features works of art in various media created by artists with special needs.
The exhibition has been traveling throughout the Harrisburg region and will be on display in the Susquehanna Art Museum’s S. Wilson and Grace M. Pollock Education Center Gallery from Friday, March 2 through and including Sunday, March 18.
“This project has been a labor of love for not only most of the Arc professional team, but also a journey and a method of self-expression (self advocacy) for artists. Some have art instructors or advisors and they have been involved in the exhibition as well,” said Caterina Veccia, a member of the Arc team.
The juried show had over 80 entries with nearly 20 artists receiving awards. Additionally, each venue where the art show has been on display will have a “People’s Choice Award” based upon balloting.
“We have made many significant changes to the exhibition, perhaps most notable being the idea of a traveling exhibition. The purpose of that is to give maximum exposure to our artists, to encourage the artists to keep expressing themselves, and to allow the public to have a better chance of seeing the art on display as not everyone would normally find themselves at any one particular location—by spreading it out, more will get to view this terrific art,” said Ken Seeger, Director of Consumer Programs at The Arc of Dauphin County.
The exhibition will conclude its tour throughout our region on March 25th at the Arc’s signature celebration of victories by persons with special needs. “The SpeakOut! Celebration” at the Central Hotel, Harrisburg, March 25th. Tickets available in advance only for March 25th are available by calling 717.920.2727.
