8th Annual Juried Exhibition: Transformative Craft

Transformative Craft

8th Annual Juried Exhibition

Susquehanna Art Museum’s 8th annual juried exhibition invited artists to submit transformative works that highlight the considerable attention to detail, process-based skill, and inventiveness that exemplify contemporary craft.

Artistic craft practices of all varieties share the skillful ability to transform material. Contemporary craft artists combine meticulous workmanship with traditional materials to create masterful objects that transcend hierarchical categorization. The artworks selected for Transformative Craft highlight the unique possibilities of transforming traditional craft materials into contemporary works of art.

JUROR

  • SAM is pleased to welcome 2023 juror Kate Dockery, Exhibition Manager, Contemporary Craft, Pittsburgh
  • About the Juror: Kate Dockery (she/her) is a curator and metalsmith based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Starting her career as a production jeweler with a background in fabrication, Dockery now coordinates three gallery spaces as the Exhibition Manager at Contemporary Craft. She has played a critical role in developing the future artistic direction of the organization through curation and public programming. During her time at Contemporary Craft, she has worked on exhibitions including Humaira Abid’s Searching for Home, Transformation 11: Contemporary Works in Glass, and Jessica Calderwood’s Everything but the Kitchen Sink. Dockery’s main areas of interest and research include Victorian mourning jewelry, craft’s contributions to the trompe-l’œil tradition, and the intersection of illustration and ceramic surface treatments. She earned her BFA with a focus in Metals and Jewelry and a minor in Art History from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in 2016, where she laid the groundwork for a student-run exhibition space that is currently operating today.
