A Journey of Embracing the Unknown by Valerie R. Dillon.
Meanderings features a collection of variable collagraphic prints by artist Valerie R. Dillon. With these pieces, the artist illustrates her journey of shifting between known and unknown spaces.
Dillon “meanders” between familiar and experimental modes of printmaking with a combination of traditional and deconstructed found materials. This process is intuitive, with no strictly planned composition. A variety of dynamic combinations of shapes, colors, and patterns are the result. The artist relinquishes control and relies on her artmaking experience to organically guide the process, embracing the beauty and excitement of moving into unexplored spaces.
Valerie R. Dillon is a teaching artist from Denver, Colorado who resides locally in Hershey, Pennsylvania. She has a BFA in art education and fine art printmaking from the Metropolitan State University of Denver in Colorado and an MFA in Studio Art from Penn State School of Visual Arts. Her artwork has been exhibited regionally and nationally at venues including Washington Printmakers Gallery in Washington, D.C., Manhattan Graphics Center in New York, and Lawrence Art Center in Kansas. Dillon began exploring the collagraph printing techniques found in this recent work, during a three-month artist residency at Rubber City Prints in Akron, Ohio.
