Earth and Tide

Earth and Tide: Connected Through Place

Sense of place is the sixth sense, an internal compass and map made by memory and spatial perception together.    -Rebecca Solnit

Earth and Tide: Connected Through Place consists of a group of South Central Pennsylvania artists who gather to exchange ideas and expand art communities. With artists of multiple disciplines, including painting, printmaking and mixed media, our work runs the visual spectrum.  Making connections through theme and collaboration allows us to enhance and better understand our own artwork, as well as each other’s.

Setting connects us to emotion. Recognizable landscapes comfort. Skylines excite. The sea haunts, filling us with wonder for the unknown.  Each of these artists deals with land and sea in a unique way.  The sense of place is represented by color, line, perspective, or depiction of an object.  Even as these suggestions of setting may be familiar to every viewer, specific memories they evoke will be shaped by individual history, allowing for physical location that is ever shifting.
