Embraced by Honey Bees

From Friday February 16 – April 29, 2018 the Susquehanna Art Museum presents Embraced by Honey Bees, a solo exhibition in the Lobby Gallery featuring the work of Ladislav Hanka.

Biography

Ladislav Hanka is inspired by the landscape to create artwork as meditations on life, death, and transformation. He finds reflections of humanity through close inspection of the natural world.  Much of Hanka’s work with nature includes collaborations with honey bees. He places etchings into living beehives so that the bees build up their wax directly onto the surface of his pieces. The artist relinquishes control of the outcome to the bees in an act of creative collaboration.

Hanka has exhibited nationally and internationally, and his work can be found in over 120 public collections. The Permanent Archive of his prints, books, proofs, documentation, and correspondence is housed at Special Collections: Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo MI.
